Washington is on fire.

Another wildfire has started up north towards the end of the trail. The PCT is now closed in two sections, complicating finishing the trail. There is not much that can be done but to hike what can be hiked and wait out the rest. Reports say that an experienced Hot Shot fire crew has been brought in to try and get the trail passable. But with the latest fire, it seems Mother Nature has other plans. I will be patiently waiting at home, hiking to Snoqualmie and then getting off the trail again for a wedding and hopefully upon my return, the trail will be cleared as well as the smoke on the horizon.

Worst case scenario…..Pacific Crest Trail Thru-hike 2016.

  1. Sorry to hear that fire may have intervened but am glad you are at home and safe to hike another day. SoCal is also on Fire as is all of the west coast it seems as we are in the midst of a five year drought. Hopefully we will get some needed relief in the form of much needed rain this winter.

Thanks again for so many magnificent pictures and commentary!! You have so much to be proud of and thankful for!!!

  2. Thank you! I am so happy to have experienced what I have on the trail and it’s not really too much of a downer if I can’t finish this year. But I will still be giving it a go in September.

  3. Tony, I’m glad that you hit home when you did and you are able to surmise the situation from a safe distance from the Wildfires plaguing the NW PCT.
Wishing you the best thru Snoqualmie.
You have shared an incredible journey. Not only in your brilliant photography but also from your description so vividly expressed. Thank you for letting us tag along step-by-step. Safe travels. Hilary

  4. As far as I’m concerned, you finished. The trail ended where the fires closed the trail. It’s important to be safe. Winds and fires are not worth taking a risk. The weather is changing back and forth every day and you don’t want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
